More broadly, there have also been some additions to the list of far-reaching technologies—suggested technical innovations that not only are not ready to be put into practice by most businesses—they are still being polished in research departments and start-up incubators. However, their introduction may prove to be such an important step that enterprises should keep a close eye on their development, as these advances, once they penetrate the mass market, are likely to lead to serious and unforeseen tipping points in various sectors of the economy.
