WhatsApp has revealed a new feature that will make data secure for users. One of the things people have loved so far about Facebook-owned text application WhatsApp is how secure the chatting experience inside the application is.
In chats where users engage, whether it’s group or personal chats, people can sit securely as all their chats are end-to-end encrypted. But this was not the case with cloud backup. WhatsApp offered encrypted cloud backup, neither for iOS nor Android devices. But it is changing now.
Chat backup on WhatsApp will also now be encrypted
Mark Zuckerberg reported in a post that WhatsApp is now the only texting application in the world that offers both encrypted messaging and backup. Zuckerberg mentioned that accessing such a platform was not easy as there were a lot of technical challenges.
WhatsApp will allow users to backup chats like this
WhatsApp said that it will now allow its users to back up their chat data with the help of encryption keys. It will be available for both iOS and Android devices. Users can lock their chat backups using 64-digit encryption keys that can be stored offline, or they can create a password that uses their encryption keys in a cloud-based “backup key vault” developed by WhatsApp. Will backup.
One thing to note here is that cloud-stored encryption keys cannot be used without the users password and the good thing is that WhatsApp doesn’t know that password. This will ensure that your chat backup data is absolutely safe.
WhatsApp said that users can also reset the password in case they forget it. But it will be important for users to store their 64 digit encryption keys securely because if they lose it, WhatsApp will not be able to help them. Losing encryption keys would mean that users would lose their entire chats.
