The central government has once again questioned the new privacy policy of WhatsApp, calling it against Indian Information Technology (IT) laws and rules. A number of petitions have been filed in the Delhi High Court challenging WhatsApp’s new privacy policy. During the hearing of these petitions, the Center told the bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh that WhatsApp’s new privacy policy violates Indian IT law and rules.
During the hearing of the case, the Center told the court that it has given directions to the social media platform to clarify its position on it. The Center also told the court that it has written to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in this regard. The Center urged the court to maintain the status quo on implementing the new privacy policy till the answer is reached in this matter.
Whatsapp said wrong claims of central government
However, WhatsApp rejected the claims of the central government and told the court that its new privacy policy fully adheres to the Indian IT law and rules. At the same time, he also said that he has made this policy effective from May 15.
Also, WhatsApp told the court that if a user does not accept his new privacy policy, then he will not delete his account. Rather, they will encourage such users to accept this new policy.
